You would be surprised that a lot of old buildings and monuments are made of travertine and perhaps have travertine floor tiles. One of the most popular buildings, Rome's Colosseum in Italy is made mostly of travertine. Other monuments include one of Europe's oldest castles, the Burghausen in Germany which is 1000 years old is also made mostly of travertine. France's Sacr-Cr Basilica is also composed mostly of this material. If you want this kind of old world feel to your house, office, or room, you should definitely use this material. Outside the old world though, a lot of homes and offices use this material as part of their design element. However you can usually find travertine floor tiles in the trendiest patios or garden paths. If you ask a designer, he or she may say travertine limestone or travertine marble. Do not get confused as they just refer to travertine and not a combination of materials. The best thing about this rock is that it has a wide color range that can fit any design or color theme. If you want a sophisticated, muted kind of room, you could go for the gray ones but there are also colors that go as loud as coral red. Like colors, the texture of these tiles also vary. You can get a smoother version of travertine floor tiles by asking for one that is filled. However, if you want the coarser texture so you can use to contrast or compliment other elements in a room, you could get the one that has pits and troughs by asking for the unfilled kind. While it was dominant in a lot of old European monuments and architecture, modern culture also uses travertine. A lot of architecture now has included the material. It is mostly used in flooring, wall cladding, as well as a facade material One of the most famous architects in the world, Welton Becket was known for his use of travertine floor tiles as well as other kinds of this material. This real and natural stone does a lot for a room. Not only does it add a cool sort of worn feel to a room, it also adds a lot of dramatic beauty to it. Whether filled or unfilled, travertine tiles create a strong impact when you use them as part of your overall design for a house, room, office, and building.
